• Reviewed in the United States on December 8, 2024As soon as I finished reading Ernst Alahram Louis-Jacques's book, Success with Meaning, I decided to be an MVP [most valuable player] in the game of life, meaning that I have adopted the MVP-PA model as my mantra.
  
  The author starts this book by giving a brief story of his school days in 1989 at his high school in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He graduated high school and then obtained his high school diploma. Since being a high school graduate wasn't his ultimate goal, he decided to take the SAT in America; he was fortunate to be among the 100 students who had passed out of the 2000 students who had sat for the exam. Having been successful with his SAT, he gained admission into the university. He received life-changing advice from his business maths teacher, Mr. Theodat, significantly benefiting his professional life.
  
  The author starts by pointing out that there is a proper approach to success: the desire to make a positive difference in the world. He emphasizes that your potential lies beyond personal gains but in the number of people you have helped throughout your lifetime. He talks about responsibility as the price of achieving success and greatness. He encourages churches to teach personal responsibility as it represents the principle of love for one another. He presents self-discipline, integrity, and ethical behaviors of others as pillars of self-personal responsibility. One of the key parts of this book is the MVP-PA model. The acronym stands for mission, vision, passion, plan, and action. This model will help an individual make good decisions while contributing to building a better world.
  
  There is so much to like about this book. However, the best, in my opinion, would be how the author uses his personal stories and the stories of other individuals to provide examples and real-life scenarios of his points. This makes the author's points and opinions easy to understand and relate to. One of the stories that stood out to me was the author's father's story. I like that he was his inspiration, especially seeing how he sponsored his cousin's four-year college education to become a civil engineer. Stories like this made me like the book even more, as men like this are unspoken heroes.
